Complications and Miracles - 31 weeks and counting

Well, two weeks ago I went into the doctor for my regular appointment and the baby's heartbeat was 80, so I got sent immediately to the hospital and that evolved into an ultrasound that showed excessive levels of amniotic fluid. Well, come to find out the baby's heartbeat was fine but the ultrasound showed higher than normal levels of amniotic fluid which are often associated with abnormalities or problems with the baby so this was not good news. The doctor said it could be due to gestational diabetes, so we'll test that first and if the test comes back negative we'll have to send you to a specialist in Eugene. So, never in my life, would I thought I would pray so hard to have gestational diabetes, but I did! This definitely was the better option of the two. Anyways, long story short, I failed the first glucose test but passed the 3-hour glucose test, so No gestational diabetes. I was devastated. My husband gave me a blessing that everything would work out and we went about waiting to go to Eugene and preparing our minds for what was in store. For Family Home Evening that week we told the story to the kids about when Jesus was in the boat with his disciples and a huge storm came on. The disciples feared the worst and came to Jesus demanding how he could sleep, didn't he understand the direness of the situation? We tried to explain to the kids what a miracle was and how Jesus has power over all things, even the wind and the sea, and then as a family we knealt in prayer and prayed for a miracle that the baby would be okay.

Well, 2 weeks after all this started we go to see the specialist for a high-definition (4-D) ultrasound and find out that all the extra amniotic fluid is suddenly gone! No explanation. "Idiopathic" the doctor says, meaning they have no reason to explain why it so suddenly went away. But he says "no problem", "A+," "there is no problem here" "I do not have polyhydramnios." They also checked the baby and found no problems or abnormalities. Whew. What a relief. A huge burden lifted and I could breathe again. I literally have lost 5 pounds which I am sure was all the extra amniotic fluid that I was carrying. We certainly feel like we got our prayers answered and a miracle ensued.

I was so grateful to all our friends and family who prayed with us. My Visiting Teacher was amazing through this whole thing, watching my kids, calling me every day to check on me, bringing us dinner when we got back from Eugene. I truly felt cared for and needed that.

So here's our fancy smancy ultrasound picture. It's kind of cool to see the baby's face. It was snuggled up into the placenta so it looks a little weird. Apparently it was using that as a pillow.
