Halloween....a day early!

our Halloween bulletin board with crafts from Nana....So we celebrated a night early so we can keep our day of rest tomorrow. I need it! I'm worn out. Grace has had like 6 suckers. We'll see if she sleeps tonight. Tomorrow we are going to church and then having pulled pork at home with Luis and Ann.

Operation Christmas Child

So every year at Christmas now we try to do something nice for someone we don't know, whether that is something simple like buying something at Walmart and wrapping a gift up for a child or a senior and putting it under their tree or more elaborate. I try to involve the kids as much as I can to teach them about giving to others. They know a lot about getting and so we're trying to encourage the other end of that spectrum. Twinkle Toes is still diligently working on her "christmas list" and has been for months now. We both finally got so frustrated with it that we told her the list had to go!

Anyways, we came across this idea from Caleb's preschool, which is a church and a drop off site for Operation Christmas Child. The idea is you pack a shoebox with small inexpensive things for a child - things like small toys, hard candy, school supplies, toothbrush, a myriad of things, and they have a list of what is approved and what is not. You can decide what age child you would like to send your box to and whether or not to a boy or girl, or both! You make a small donation for shipping and then I think you drop it off at one of their dropoff sites, BUT if you make your donation online you can even follow your shoebox and maybe the child will even write you back(you can include your address if you would like). I thought this would be a fun thing for the kids to do and help brighten another child's Christmas. The organization uses it as an opportunity to spread the word about Jesus. Here's the website if it sounds like something you would like to do. National Collection Week is Nov 15-22 so get on it!

Crafty Weekend

So being home all weekend I thought we should do some fun things......so Martha visited our house this week and helped us glitter some pumpkins.

then she decorated our stairs with....eek!.....Mice! Google "creepy mice martha stewart templates" for the template.

These are gourmet caramel apples, first dip in caramel, then in white chocolate, then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Yum! These were really good and I don't even like caramel apples. The combination of the chocolate and caramel with cinnamon and sugar made it taste like apple pie. My pictures don't do it justice. Go here for the full recipe: http://www.alittletipsy.com/2009/09/make-your-own-gourmet-caramel-apples.html

See & Sew 3889

So a few of the gals in my ward are making these dresses(thanks Rachel! www.eoberrys.blogspot.com). Aren't they adorable? I threw this together and added the apron and fringe. It's been about 3 years since I've sewn a dress, I think, so I had to channel Aunt Lana and Amy while doing this, but I managed. A few places I was like "what" are they saying? But I just kind of winged it based on what I thought made sense. And Grace isn't smoking a cigar, that's a Chocolate and Hazelnut Pirouette (thanks Nana!). The Hubby thought it was a little "loud" like everyone's going to go blind when Grace walks in the room....ha! So I decided against adding another piece to the apron that was totally going to zing it out of the park and give everyone a headache. The Huggalugs tights are super cute *****
